Guidance for families

If you are a worried that your partner or relative is struggling with their mood:

Talk

Try to talk to her about how she is feeling, without making any judgements or dismissing her feelings.

Listen

Listen and demonstrate that you understand.

Encourage

Encourage her to speak to her midwife, GP or health visitor so she can get further help as needed.

Normalise

Continue a normal routine and respond positively.

Do not take it personally

She may feel irritable and be very snappy, do not take it personally. You could try to suggest she takes a break and find ways to offer some practical help so she feels able to take some time to relax.
